HBO premiered Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade in 2016 as a one-hour film also titled Lemonade.
The project debuted on April 23, 2016, on HBO and was released as Beyoncé’s sixth studio album the following day. Its visual chapters combine music, poetry, imagery, and symbolic references to Black womanhood, family, betrayal, grief, and resilience. The album’s structure uses recurring themes rather than presenting a conventional music-video collection.
Lemonade includes songs such as “Formation,” “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” and “All Night.” Its guest artists include Jack White, James Blake, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd. Critics praised the album’s ambition, visual storytelling, and political and personal dimensions. It is often confused with Black Is King, a 2020 visual album connected to The Lion King: The Gift, but Lemonade was the HBO project released in 2016.
