The Harley-Davidson model introduced as the Fat Boy in 1990 was the FLSTF.
The motorcycle was created by Harley-Davidson designers Willie G. Davidson and Louie Netz. Its broad tires, solid-cast wheels, substantial fenders and Softail frame gave it a visually heavy, muscular appearance.
The model’s official factory designation was FLSTF, while “Fat Boy” became the familiar retail and public name. It was positioned as a modern interpretation of classic Harley-Davidson cruiser styling.
The Fat Boy is sometimes confused with other Softail models because several shared the same basic chassis family. Its most recognizable distinguishing features included solid disc-style wheels and a wide front end, although specifications changed across later generations.
