The Harley-Davidson Pan America became the company’s first adventure-touring motorcycle when it debuted in 2021.
Harley-Davidson developed the Pan America for both paved roads and off-road travel, a substantial expansion beyond the brand’s traditional cruiser, touring, and performance models. It was offered in standard Pan America 1250 and more off-road-focused Pan America 1250 Special forms.
The motorcycle uses the liquid-cooled Revolution Max 1250 engine, rather than one of Harley-Davidson’s long-running air-cooled Big Twin families. Its upright riding position, long-travel suspension, wire-spoke wheel option, and protective equipment reflect adventure-motorcycle design.
A common mix-up is calling the Pan America a conventional touring bike because of its name. Harley-Davidson’s established touring motorcycles, such as the Electra Glide and Road Glide, are designed primarily for long-distance paved-road travel.
