Which handheld system was Mario Kart: Super Circuit released for?
Answer
Game Boy Advance
Answer
Game Boy Advance
Mario Kart: Super Circuit was released for the Game Boy Advance. It was the first Mario Kart game made for a handheld system and was built around Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance hardware.
Nintendo released Super Circuit in Japan on July 21, 2001, followed by North America on August 27 and Europe on September 14. Intelligent Systems developed the game, making it the only Mario Kart entry developed by that Nintendo studio.
Although it was a handheld title, Super Circuit preserved the series’ racing, item, Grand Prix, Versus, and Battle modes. It included 40 tracks: 20 original courses and 20 redesigned tracks from the 1992 Super Mario Kart.
Players could connect up to four Game Boy Advance systems with the Game Link Cable for multiplayer. That connection requirement is one reason the game is sometimes mistakenly associated with the Game Boy Color or Nintendo DS, but neither system was its original platform. The game was later rereleased digitally on the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and Nintendo Switch.
