Which Gupta emperor took the title Vikramaditya?

The story behind the answer

Chandragupta II took the title Vikramaditya. He ruled the Gupta Empire from about 375 to 415 CE and became one of its most celebrated monarchs, following his father, Samudragupta.

The title Vikramaditya means something like “sun of valor” and was associated with an idealized, victorious king. In Chandragupta II’s case, inscriptions and coins connect the title with his reign. His defeat of the Western Kshatrapas, often identified as Shaka rulers, extended Gupta influence into Malwa and toward the western coast.

Chandragupta II is also remembered for the prosperity and cultural achievements associated with the Gupta age. The Chinese pilgrim Faxian visited India during his reign, while later tradition linked his court with exceptional scholars such as Kalidasa. The legendary Vikramaditya is not identical in every story to the historical Gupta ruler, but many historians believe the legends partly reflect Chandragupta II.
