Which Greek Titan is Pandora’s story connected to through the punishment for stealing fire?

The story behind the answer

Pandora’s story is connected to the Titan Prometheus through his punishment for stealing fire.

Prometheus is portrayed in Greek mythology as a benefactor of humanity. In Hesiod’s account, he deceives Zeus during a sacrifice and later steals fire for humans. Zeus responds by arranging a punishment that includes Pandora’s creation and the release of suffering into human life.

Prometheus and Pandora are therefore part of the same mythic sequence, but they play different roles. Prometheus brings fire and useful knowledge to humans, while Pandora’s arrival introduces the evils that had previously been hidden from them. Hesiod’s narrative presents both events within Zeus’s effort to assert divine authority.

Modern retellings frequently treat Prometheus as the sole central character and mention Pandora only briefly. Other retellings reverse the emphasis and make the container the whole story. In the earliest surviving literary tradition, however, Pandora’s story cannot be separated from the Prometheus myth and the dispute between Zeus and humanity’s champion.
