Prometheus stole fire from the gods before Pandora was created.
Prometheus was a Titan who supported humanity and challenged Zeus. In the familiar myth, he concealed fire and ultimately brought it to humans, giving them a powerful tool associated with cooking, craft, technology, and civilization.
Zeus treated the theft as a serious defiance of divine authority. Hesiod connects the punishment for this act with the creation and dispatch of Pandora, whose vessel released suffering into the human world. Prometheus himself was also punished separately by being bound to a mountain, where an eagle consumed his liver repeatedly.
Different ancient authors tell the fire story with variations, and later writers often portray Prometheus more sympathetically. His name is now widely associated with rebellion, invention, and the transfer of knowledge.
