Athena taught Pandora domestic crafts, according to the traditional Pandora myth.
Pandora was not simply made by Hephaestus and sent into the world without preparation. Hesiod describes a sequence in which different gods contribute abilities or qualities. Athena, the goddess associated with wisdom, warfare, and crafts, teaches Pandora skills connected with handiwork.
Other gods contribute different features. Aphrodite gives her grace or beauty, while Hermes supplies characteristics linked with speech and deception. These gifts help explain the name Pandora, commonly translated as “all-gifted.”
The myth should not be confused with later images that show Pandora as a passive figure holding a small box. In the ancient account, she is a divinely constructed woman whose appearance, skills, and behavior are all shaped through contributions from the gods.
