Athena taught Pandora crafts after Hephaestus created her.
Athena was the Greek goddess associated with wisdom, warfare, and skilled crafts. In Hesiod’s account, she helped equip Pandora after Hephaestus fashioned her from earth. Her contribution was practical instruction rather than the creation of Pandora’s body.
Pandora’s making involved several gods. Zeus commanded the project, Hephaestus shaped her, Athena taught her crafts, Aphrodite bestowed beauty and desire, and Hermes supplied speech and deceptive qualities. These contributions support the interpretation of Pandora’s name as “all-gifted.”
The myth is sometimes simplified into a story in which one god creates Pandora alone. Hesiod’s version is more structured: Pandora is a divine composite, assembled through the separate powers of the Olympians. Athena’s role is especially notable because it connects Pandora with learned skills, even though later retellings often focus only on beauty and curiosity.
