Which Greek goddess is said to have dressed Pandora in the myth of Pandora’s box?

The story behind the answer

Athena is the Greek goddess said to have dressed Pandora in the myth of Pandora’s box.

In Hesiod’s Works and Days, the gods participate in preparing Pandora before she is sent to Epimetheus. Athena, known for wisdom, warfare, and crafts, is associated with clothing and adorning Pandora in the creation scene.

Other gods contribute different qualities, which is why the episode is easy to blur together. Aphrodite contributes beauty and charm, while Hermes gives speech and a deceptive character in the traditional account. Pandora’s presentation is therefore a coordinated divine project rather than a single goddess’s act.

The story is not the same as later artistic versions in which one deity creates every detail. Hesiod’s emphasis on many gods giving separate qualities explains the name Pandora, commonly understood as “all-gifted.” The clothing detail belongs to the larger sequence of preparation before her arrival among humans.
