Aphrodite is linked with Pandora’s beauty and charm in Hesiod’s creation story. The goddess of love contributes qualities that make Pandora attractive and desirable, complementing the skills and traits supplied by other deities.
Pandora is not created by a single god in the myth. Zeus commands the project, Hephaestus shapes the figure, Athena contributes instruction and adornment, Hermes supplies speech and deceptive qualities, and other gods add further attributes. Aphrodite’s role emphasizes physical beauty and the power of attraction.
Later retellings often compress these contributions into the general statement that “the gods gave Pandora gifts.” That summary is accurate in broad outline but can obscure which deity is associated with which quality. Aphrodite should not be confused with Athena, whose contribution concerns crafts and clothing, or Hermes, whose concerns include speech and guile.
