Which Greek god warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus?

The story behind the answer

Prometheus warned his brother Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus. In Hesiod’s account, the warning reflects Prometheus’s reputation for foresight and his distrust of Zeus’s intentions.

Prometheus had already opposed Zeus by helping humanity. In the broader mythic tradition, he steals fire from the gods and gives it to humans, an act that provokes Zeus. Pandora’s creation follows as part of Zeus’s response to that conflict.

Despite the warning, Epimetheus accepts Pandora when Hermes brings her. This decision allows the myth to connect the theft of fire with the later arrival of suffering among humans. The brothers’ names create a deliberate contrast: Prometheus suggests thinking ahead, while Epimetheus suggests understanding afterward.

Prometheus is not Pandora’s husband; that role belongs to Epimetheus. The distinction matters because many modern summaries mention both brothers close together and can blur their separate parts in the story.
