Zeus sent Pandora to Epimetheus as part of a punishment in Greek mythology.
The punishment follows Prometheus’s theft of fire for humanity. Zeus had withheld fire from mortals, but Prometheus secretly brought it to them, allowing human civilization and technology to advance. Zeus responds by arranging the creation and delivery of Pandora.
Hesiod presents Pandora as a divinely made woman whose arrival brings suffering to human life. Zeus instructs Hephaestus to fashion her, and other gods provide gifts or attributes before she is sent to Epimetheus.
The story is not a myth about Pandora independently defeating Zeus. She is created within Zeus’s plan, while Epimetheus’s acceptance of her makes the punishment effective. Zeus is the ruler of the Olympian gods and the central divine authority in the Pandora narrative.
