Which Greek god ordered the creation of Pandora as part of Zeus’s punishment of humanity?

The story behind the answer

Zeus ordered the creation of Pandora as part of his punishment of humanity. In Hesiod’s account, the punishment follows Prometheus’s theft of fire for mortals.

Zeus directs the gods to make Pandora, and different deities contribute to her appearance, abilities, and adornments. She is presented as a beautiful woman whose arrival brings a new form of suffering to human beings. The myth therefore connects the jar episode with the earlier conflict between Zeus and Prometheus.

The story is not simply about curiosity. In Hesiod, Pandora is deliberately sent to humanity through Zeus’s plan. Modern uses of “Pandora’s box” often focus on the consequences of opening something dangerous, while the original narrative also explains how Hesiod imagined the origin of toil, disease, and other hardships.
