Which Greek god ordered Pandora’s creation as punishment for Prometheus stealing fire?

The story behind the answer

In the Greek myth of Pandora, Zeus ordered her creation as punishment for Prometheus stealing fire.

Prometheus had taken fire from the gods and given it to humanity, an act that improved mortal life but challenged Zeus’s authority. Zeus responded by arranging a punishment aimed at both Prometheus and humankind. He instructed the gods to create Pandora, the first woman in Hesiod’s account, and sent her to Epimetheus.

Different gods contributed qualities to Pandora. Hephaestus fashioned her from earth, while other deities gave her gifts associated with beauty, skill, persuasion, and charm. These gifts help explain the meaning of her name, commonly interpreted as “all-gifted.”

The myth is not simply a story about curiosity. In Hesiod’s telling, Pandora is part of a larger divine plan explaining why hardship affects human life and why women and marriage entered the human condition.
