Zeus ordered Pandora’s creation as punishment connected with Prometheus.
According to Hesiod, Prometheus’s actions angered Zeus. The Titan had deceived Zeus during a sacrifice and then taken fire for humanity, allowing people to possess a power Zeus had intended to withhold. Zeus responded by arranging the creation of Pandora and the release of troubles into human life.
Zeus directed Hephaestus to shape Pandora from earth, while the other gods gave her various attributes. The story therefore presents Pandora as part of a deliberate divine plan rather than as an accidental source of misfortune.
The myth reflects the broader Greek portrayal of Zeus as ruler of the gods and enforcer of cosmic authority. Different ancient writers tell the Prometheus and Pandora stories with variations, but Zeus’s role as the organizer of Pandora’s creation is central to Hesiod’s account.
