Which goddess is the twin sister of Isis?
Answer
Nephthys
Answer
Nephthys
Nephthys is the twin sister of Isis in ancient Egyptian mythology. Both goddesses are daughters of the earth god Geb and the sky goddess Nut, and sisters of Osiris and Seth.
Nephthys is closely linked with mourning, death, protection, magic, and the night. In the Osiris myth, she joins Isis in searching for and lamenting their murdered brother Osiris. Their paired mourning became an important model for Egyptian funerary rituals, and both goddesses were shown protecting the dead or the sarcophagus.
Nephthys is often confused with Isis because they share family ties, protective roles, and similar artistic forms. Nephthys is commonly identified by a headdress representing a temple enclosure, while Isis originally wore a throne-shaped emblem. Some later traditions also made Nephthys the mother of Anubis, although Egyptian myths vary on his parentage.
