Athena clothed Pandora when the gods created her in Greek mythology.
Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom, warfare, and crafts, especially weaving. In Hesiod’s creation scene, she clothes Pandora and helps equip her with the polished appearance expected of a divinely fashioned woman.
Pandora’s creation is collaborative. Hephaestus shapes her, Athena provides clothing and craft-related qualities, and Hermes supplies deceptive mental and verbal qualities. Other divine figures add ornaments, garlands, or charm in the poem’s richly symbolic description.
This role should not be confused with Athena being the goddess who gave Pandora every gift. The name Pandora reflects the many divine contributions, while the specific act of clothing is assigned to Athena.
