Which girl group launched Beyoncé to international fame in the late 1990s?
Answer
Destiny’s Child
Answer
Destiny’s Child
Destiny’s Child launched Beyoncé to international fame in the late 1990s.
The group formed in Houston in the early 1990s under an earlier name, Girl’s Tyme. Its lineup changed several times before Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and LaTavia Roberson became the best-known original recording lineup. LeToya Luckett later replaced two departing members, creating the quartet heard on the group’s breakthrough album.
Destiny’s Child signed with Columbia Records and released its self-titled debut album in 1998. The group’s second album, The Writing’s on the Wall, followed in 1999 and produced major hits including “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name.” The song “Say My Name” won two Grammy Awards in 2001.
The group eventually continued as a trio of Beyoncé, Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Destiny’s Child disbanded after its 2005 album Destiny Fulfilled, although the members have reunited for occasional performances.
