The Gimlet podcast about Black culture hosted by Brittany Luse and Eric Eddings was The Nod.
The show grew out of For Colored Nerds, the independently produced podcast Luse and Eddings began making before joining Gimlet Media. The Nod premiered in July 2017 and explored the varied, complicated dimensions of Black life through interviews, cultural criticism, history and playful conversation.
Its subjects included both everyday cultural references and deeper questions about identity, representation and the history behind popular traditions. The hosts’ partnership was central to the format: they approached topics with warmth and humour while treating Black culture as broad and internally diverse, rather than as a single experience.
The Nod is sometimes confused with For Colored Nerds because both shows were made by Luse and Eddings. They are related but distinct titles. The Gimlet podcast ended in early 2020 when the hosts moved to a short-form video version of The Nod on Quibi; the title therefore refers to more than one format across its run.
