Which German industrialist saved about 1,200 Jews by employing them during the Holocaust?

The story behind the answer

Oskar Schindler saved about 1,200 Jews by employing them during the Holocaust.

Schindler was a German industrialist and member of the Nazi Party who acquired an enamelware factory in Kraków, occupied Poland. He initially sought profit from wartime production, but his relationship with Jewish workers changed as Nazi persecution intensified. He used bribes, personal connections, and claims that his workers were essential to military production to protect them from deportation and murder.

In 1944, Schindler moved his factory to Brünnlitz in Moravia and compiled a list of workers who were transferred there. The “Schindler’s List” episode became widely known through Thomas Keneally’s book and Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film. Yad Vashem recognized Schindler as a Righteous Among the Nations in 1993.
