Which games were the first main-series Pokémon titles presented in fully 3D graphics?
Answer
Pokémon X and Y
Answer
Pokémon X and Y
Pokémon X and Y were the first main-series Pokémon titles presented in fully 3D graphics.
Released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, Pokémon X and Y replaced the primarily sprite-based presentation of earlier main-series games with polygonal character models and environments. Battles used animated 3D Pokémon models, while the overworld offered more dynamic visual perspectives.
The games are set in the Kalos region, which was inspired by France, and they introduced the sixth generation of Pokémon. Their other major additions included Mega Evolution, character customization, and the Fairy type. They also became the first Pokémon games to receive a simultaneous worldwide release.
Earlier Pokémon titles used some 3D elements, such as special effects or separate spin-off experiences, but X and Y marked the main series’ full transition to polygonal 3D presentation. Later games expanded the approach with more open environments and camera movement.
