Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Which game was the first to use the Euphoria physics engine? Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Released in 2008, LucasArts' action game was the first title credited with using NaturalMotion's Euphoria technology, which created more responsive, physically driven character reactions. Euphoria was technically an animation and behavioral simulation system rather than a conventional physics engine, but it worked alongside physics technology to produce lifelike movement.
The Force Unleashed combined Euphoria with Havok for general rigid-body physics and Pixelux's Digital Molecular Matter for material destruction. Together, these systems allowed enemies to stumble, grab ledges, react to impacts, and behave differently depending on how the player used the Force. The game's proprietary Ronin engine coordinated these technologies.
The title is sometimes confused with Grand Theft Auto IV, which became one of Euphoria's best-known implementations later in 2008. The Force Unleashed is also notable because it was the first game to use both Euphoria and Digital Molecular Matter. Its Wii version used different technology and did not include the same full technology combination as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.
