Wii Sports was bundled with most Wii consoles and became the best-selling Nintendo game ever.
Nintendo released Wii Sports in 2006 as a collection of five motion-controlled sports: tennis, baseball, bowling, golf, and boxing. Players used the Wii Remote to imitate actions such as swinging a racket or rolling a bowling ball.
The game’s sales were boosted enormously because it was included with the Wii in many regions, although Japan and South Korea generally sold the console without the bundle. This regional difference can cause confusion when comparing sales figures.
Wii Sports also helped demonstrate the Wii’s central idea: accessible motion control for players who might not usually play video games. Its success led to Wii Sports Resort, released in 2009, which added activities such as swordplay and archery.
