Which game studio developed the original Pokémon video games?

The story behind the answer

Game Freak developed the original Pokémon video games.

Game Freak was founded by Satoshi Tajiri and grew from a self-published video-game magazine into a development studio. Tajiri brought the Pokémon concept to Nintendo, and Game Freak created Pokémon Red and Green for the Game Boy.

Nintendo published the games and helped bring them to market, but publishing and development are different roles. Creatures also became an important company in the wider Pokémon business, particularly through its involvement with the trading card game and franchise management.

Game Freak has continued to develop the mainline Pokémon role-playing games across Nintendo hardware generations. The studio's work established the series' core systems, including catching, training, evolution, battling, trading, version differences, and a growing regional Pokédex.
