Which game introduced the city of Kurast to the Diablo series?

The story behind the answer

Diablo II introduced the city of Kurast to the Diablo series.

Kurast is the principal city and regional hub of Act III, which takes place in the lush jungles of Kehjistan. The act follows the player’s pursuit of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, and leads through ruined temples, jungle settlements, and the heavily fortified city area. Kurast’s distinctive setting separates it sharply from the cathedral depths of the first game and the desert landscapes of Act II.

The city is connected to the Zakarum faith and to the history of Mephisto’s influence in the region. The player eventually reaches the Durance of Hate beneath Travincal, where Mephisto is confronted.

Diablo III later revisited parts of the wider Kehjistan region, but Kurast’s first appearance belongs to Diablo II. This makes the game an important source of the series’ broader world geography.
