Which Game Freak founder is credited with creating Pokémon?
Answer
Satoshi Tajiri
Answer
Satoshi Tajiri
Satoshi Tajiri is the Game Freak founder credited with creating Pokémon.
Tajiri grew up fascinated by insects and collecting them, an interest that helped inspire Pokémon’s central idea of finding and gathering creatures. He founded Game Freak with artist Ken Sugimori, and the company began as a video-game fanzine before becoming a development studio. Tajiri served as the original games’ director and designer.
The concept eventually became a Nintendo Game Boy project built around communication between players. Tajiri imagined creatures moving between Game Boy systems through the Game Link Cable, encouraging trading and interaction rather than making the game solely a solo adventure. Development took several years before Pokémon Red and Green reached Japan in 1996.
Several other names are strongly associated with Pokémon, which can cause confusion. Ken Sugimori shaped the visual designs and artwork, while Junichi Masuda was a major programmer, composer, and later director. Shigeru Miyamoto produced the original games and advised the team, but he was not the creator credited with inventing Pokémon.
