Which future Mexican president fought for Mexico at the Battle of Puebla in 1862?

The story behind the answer

Porfirio Díaz fought for Mexico at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 and later became president.

Díaz was a Mexican military officer during the Reform War and the French intervention. At Puebla, he served as one of the officers defending the city against the French assault. His performance helped establish his reputation as a capable military leader.

Díaz later played a major role in the struggle against the French-backed Second Mexican Empire. He eventually became president and dominated Mexican politics during the period known as the Porfiriato, which lasted from 1876 to 1911 with one brief interruption.

He should not be confused with Ignacio Zaragoza, who commanded the Mexican army at Puebla, or Benito Juárez, the president whose republican government resisted the French intervention. Díaz was a battlefield officer who later rose to the presidency.
