Which frog's males brood tadpoles inside their vocal sacs?

The story behind the answer

Which frog's males brood tadpoles inside their vocal sacs? Darwin's frog. The species is Rhinoderma darwinii, a small frog native to parts of Chile and Argentina, and its unusual parenting is performed by the male.

A female lays eggs on land, usually among leaf litter. After roughly three to four weeks, the embryos begin moving. The male then takes the developing young into his mouth; they pass into his vocal sac, where the tadpoles hatch and continue developing. A male commonly carries five to eight tadpoles, though a female may lay as many as 40 eggs.

The vocal sac normally amplifies a frog's mating call, but in Darwin's frog it doubles as a nursery. The tadpoles feed largely on their yolk reserves and on secretions from the sac wall. After about six to ten weeks, miniature frogs emerge through the father's mouth. This should not be confused with the related Chile Darwin's frog, Rhinoderma rufum, which transports tadpoles to water rather than keeping them until metamorphosis.
