Which Frenchman last won the Cincinnati Open before Arthur Fils in 2026?
Answer
Guy Forget
Answer
Guy Forget
Guy Forget was the last Frenchman to win the Cincinnati Open before Arthur Fils captured the 2026 men’s singles title.
Forget won the Cincinnati singles title in 1991. Fils became the next Frenchman to do so 35 years later, defeating Frances Tiafoe in the 2026 final, 6–3, 1–6, 6–0.
The achievement was part of a broader French milestone. Fils also became the first Frenchman to win an ATP Masters 1000 title since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won the 2014 Canadian Open. Cincinnati is itself an ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
Forget and Tsonga are easy to confuse in this historical comparison: Tsonga was the most recent French Masters 1000 singles champion before Fils, while Forget was the most recent French Cincinnati champion. Those are related but different records.
