Which French high-speed railway line opened in 2001 to connect Paris with Marseille?

The story behind the answer

The French high-speed railway line opened in 2001 to connect Paris with Marseille is the LGV Méditerranée.

The line extends France’s high-speed network southward from the LGV Rhône-Alpes near Valence toward Marseille and the Mediterranean coast. Its opening completed a faster dedicated route between Paris and southeastern France, reducing journey times compared with conventional rail routes.

The LGV Méditerranée includes major engineering works such as viaducts and tunnels and serves the Provence region through stations including Avignon TGV, Aix-en-Provence TGV and Marseille-Saint-Charles via connecting tracks. TGV trains continue beyond the dedicated high-speed line on conventional approaches.

It is different from the LGV Sud-Est, France’s first dedicated high-speed line, and the LGV Nord, which serves northern France and international routes toward Belgium and Britain.
