Which French high-speed line opened in 1993 and links Paris with northern France and Belgium?

The story behind the answer

LGV Nord is the French high-speed line that opened in 1993 and links Paris with northern France and Belgium.

The line runs from the Paris region toward Lille, where routes continue toward Belgium and the Channel Tunnel. It became an important international corridor for Eurostar and Thalys services, as well as domestic TGV trains.

LGV stands for Ligne à Grande Vitesse, meaning “high-speed line.” French high-speed lines are generally numbered or named by the regions and destinations they serve.

LGV Nord is not the same as LGV Sud-Est, France’s first high-speed line, nor LGV Atlantique, which serves western France. Its international role is the reason it is especially associated with trains to Brussels and London.
