Which French composer wrote the score for Coco Chanel’s 1922 stage work Antigone?

The story behind the answer

Arthur Honegger wrote the score for the 1922 stage production of Antigone associated with Coco Chanel.

Jean Cocteau adapted Sophocles’ tragedy for a modern French stage production, and Chanel designed the costumes. Honegger, a member of the musical group Les Six, composed the accompanying music.

The collaboration brought together three major creative figures from interwar Paris: Cocteau in drama, Chanel in costume, and Honegger in music. Chanel’s theatrical work was part of a wider artistic career that included ballet, film, and stage design.

This Antigone should not be confused with later operatic or theatrical adaptations of the same ancient Greek story.
