Which French city is home to Auguste Rodin’s Villa des Brillants and grave?

The story behind the answer

Meudon is the French city home to Auguste Rodin’s Villa des Brillants and grave.

Rodin acquired the Villa des Brillants in Meudon in 1895 and used it as a residence and working environment. The property stood outside central Paris and provided space for his studio, assistants, plaster models, and large sculptural projects.

Rodin died at the villa on 17 November 1917. He was buried in Meudon beside Rose Beuret, his longtime companion and wife. The Thinker was placed above their grave, creating a direct connection between one of his most famous works and his final resting place.

The Meudon site is distinct from the Musée Rodin in Paris, which occupies the Hôtel Biron. Both locations are administered as part of the Musée Rodin, but they serve different historical roles: Paris presents the major museum collection, while Meudon preserves Rodin’s home, studio context, and tomb.
