Which French carmaker produces the Clio hatchback?

Renault is the French carmaker that produces the Clio hatchback. The Clio is Renault’s long-running supermini, known as a B-segment car in Europe and positioned below larger family models in the company’s range.

Renault introduced the Clio in 1990 as the successor to the Renault 5. It quickly became one of Europe’s best-known small cars, combining compact dimensions with practical five-door versions, economical engines, and later hybrid technology. The name refers to Clio, one of the nine Muses in Greek mythology.

The Clio has gone through multiple generations and has also been sold under the name Renault Lutecia in Japan. It is sometimes confused with Peugeot or Citroën because all three are French manufacturers competing in the same small-car market. The Clio has won European Car of the Year twice, in 1991 and 2006, an achievement shared by only one other model, the Volkswagen Golf.
