Texaco was founded in 1901 as the Texas Company.
The business began in Beaumont, Texas, during the region’s early oil boom. Its original corporate name reflected its Texas origins, while the Texaco brand later became associated with fuel stations, petroleum products, and the red star logo.
Texaco expanded beyond its initial producing operations into refining, marketing, and international petroleum activities. The company remained an important independent oil brand for much of the twentieth century.
Texaco is often confused with Chevron because Chevron acquired Texaco in 2001. After that transaction, the Texaco brand continued in various markets under Chevron’s ownership. The company’s original legal identity, however, was the Texas Company, established in 1901.
