Which forest is home to the Ents?

The forest that is home to the Ents is Fangorn Forest, also called the Entwood by the Riders of Rohan. It lies near the southeastern end of the Misty Mountains, close to Isengard and the kingdom of Rohan.

Fangorn is an ancient, dense woodland inhabited by Ents, the tree-like Shepherds of the Trees, along with Huorns and many other forms of plant life. Its best-known inhabitant is Treebeard, also called Fangorn, who is described as one of the oldest living beings in Middle-earth. His name is also the source of the forest’s name.

In The Two Towers, Merry and Pippin enter Fangorn after escaping from the Orcs. They meet Treebeard, whose decision to call an Entmoot leads to the Ents’ march against Saruman’s fortress at Isengard. This becomes one of the War of the Ring’s major turning points.

Fangorn is sometimes confused with the Old Forest, which lies near the Shire and is associated with Old Man Willow. Lothlórien is an Elven realm, while Mirkwood is another great forest far to the northeast.
