Which forest in Uganda is famous for protecting mountain gorillas and chimpanzees?
Answer
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Answer
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is famous for protecting mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in Uganda.
The forest is part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda, near the borders with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its steep terrain and dense vegetation provide habitat for one of the world’s remaining mountain-gorilla populations.
UNESCO added Bwindi to the World Heritage List in 1994 because of its exceptional biodiversity and importance for conservation. The park also supports forest elephants, several monkey species, and many endemic birds and plants.
Bwindi is often confused with nearby Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, which also protects mountain gorillas. Bwindi is especially notable for its large, genetically important gorilla population and for carefully managed tracking tourism.
