Parasite is the only film to win both Best Picture and Best International Feature Film Oscars.
The South Korean film achieved this at the 92nd Academy Awards on February 9, 2020. Directed by Bong Joon Ho, Parasite won Best Picture for producers Kwak Sin Ae and Bong Joon Ho, then took International Feature Film as South Korea's entry. It also won Best Original Screenplay, making the sweep even more historic.
Parasite was the first non-English-language film to win Best Picture. Its International Feature victory was also South Korea's first win in the category, which was then still commonly called Best Foreign Language Film in historical discussions. The Academy renamed that category in 2019.
Several earlier films came close but did not complete the double. Life Is Beautiful, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Amour, and Roma all won the foreign-language award while missing Best Picture. They are therefore common mix-ups, but Parasite remains the sole film with both prizes.
