FIFA 2000 was the first FIFA game in the series to include a licensed Major League Soccer.
The game expanded FIFA’s league coverage by adding Major League Soccer, the top professional men’s league in the United States and Canada. Including MLS helped Electronic Arts strengthen the game’s appeal in North America while continuing to build its international league catalogue.
FIFA 2000 also included national teams and club competitions from several regions. Its broader licensing approach became increasingly important as football games competed on the number of real teams, players, and tournaments they could represent.
MLS should not be confused with the United States national team or with a generic North American league. Major League Soccer is a professional club competition, and its presence in FIFA concerned league clubs rather than only international football.
