FIFA 18 included the 2018 FIFA World Cup as a free downloadable update.
Electronic Arts released the update on 29 May 2018, ahead of the tournament in Russia. It added the official World Cup competition, participating national teams, authentic stadium presentation, and tournament-related gameplay content to FIFA 18.
The update was available at no additional cost to FIFA 18 owners on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows. This approach differed from earlier standalone World Cup games, such as 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
The update is sometimes confused with FIFA 19 because FIFA 19 followed the tournament later in 2018. However, the 2018 World Cup content belonged to FIFA 18, while FIFA 19's major licensing headline was European club competition content.
