Which FIFA game first introduced the Real Player Motion Technology animation system?

The story behind the answer

FIFA 18 was the first FIFA game to introduce Real Player Motion Technology as a named animation system.

The technology used motion capture and animation work to produce more distinctive movement for footballers. EA Sports promoted it as a way to make running styles, turns, dribbling, and other actions look more authentic, with Cristiano Ronaldo prominently associated with the system’s marketing.

Real Player Motion Technology is sometimes confused with Frostbite, the game engine used by FIFA 17 and later releases, or HyperMotion, introduced much later in FIFA 22. Those technologies served broader or different purposes. FIFA 18 also continued the series’ story-focused Alex Hunter campaign and included the 2018 World Cup content in a later update, but the animation system was one of its central technical selling points.
