FIFA 16 was the first FIFA game to introduce FUT Draft, a mode built around selecting a temporary squad from randomized choices.
In FUT Draft, players choose from presented options for positions, formations, and a manager, then use the resulting team in a short competitive run. The mode gave Ultimate Team users a way to experience highly rated players without first assembling a permanent squad through the normal transfer market or packs.
FUT Draft is not the same as the standard Ultimate Team squad-building experience. It creates a separate drafted lineup and rewards progress through the run. FIFA 16 also became historically notable for adding women’s national teams, but that was a different addition. Later FIFA releases retained and expanded Draft-related features within Ultimate Team.
