Which FIFA game first included women’s national teams in the FIFA video game series?

The story behind the answer

FIFA 16 was the first FIFA video game to include women’s national teams.

The game launched with 12 women’s national teams, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and the United States. They were available in selected modes rather than being added as a separate full women’s club-league structure.

This addition is sometimes confused with women’s club football. FIFA 16 focused on international teams, while FIFA 23 later added women’s club competitions and clubs. The teams in FIFA 16 also had dedicated presentation and gameplay adjustments intended to reflect the women’s international game.

FIFA 16 was released in 2015. It marked a significant expansion of representation in the main FIFA series and was promoted as a major feature of that edition.
