Quidditch is the fictional sport at the center of J.K. Rowling’s companion book Quidditch Through the Ages.
The book presents a fictional history of the wizarding game, including its development, equipment, rules, teams, and famous players. It is framed as a volume from the Hogwarts library and is credited in the story to Kennilworthy Whisp, a fictional sports writer.
Quidditch is played on broomsticks by two teams of seven players. The game uses four balls: one Quaffle, two Bludgers, and one Golden Snitch. A Seeker who catches the Snitch earns 150 points and usually ends the match, although the team with the higher total score wins.
The companion book was published alongside Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as a charity title. Rowling later helped adapt the fictional sport’s name for real-world versions, with some non-fictional leagues using the name quadball.
