J.K. Rowling created Quidditch as the fictional sport played in the Harry Potter books.
Quidditch is played by two teams of seven players who fly on broomsticks. A match uses four balls: one Quaffle, two Bludgers, and one Golden Snitch. Chasers try to score with the Quaffle, Beaters defend their teammates and redirect Bludgers, and the Seeker pursues the Snitch.
Catching the Golden Snitch normally ends the match and awards 150 points, although that does not automatically guarantee victory. The unusual scoring system allows a team to win a match despite its Seeker catching the Snitch.
The sport was inspired partly by Rowling’s interest in inventing games for the wizarding world. Real-world versions of the game later developed, originally using broom-like equipment and adapted rules. Some real-world organisations now use the name quadball, but the fictional sport in Rowling’s books remains Quidditch.
