The Daily Prophet is the main daily newspaper in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
The paper reports events across the wizarding world and appears throughout the novels. Harry and his friends read it for news about Ministry decisions, public dangers, famous witches and wizards, and the conflict with Lord Voldemort. Its headquarters are in London, and its editor is named as Barnabas Cuffe in the series.
The Daily Prophet is not presented as a consistently reliable source. During the later books, it follows the Ministry of Magic’s official line and publishes hostile coverage of Harry and Albus Dumbledore. This storyline explores propaganda, institutional pressure, and the difference between news reporting and political messaging.
The Quibbler is a separate publication edited by Xenophilius Lovegood. It is associated with unusual theories and stories that mainstream wizarding media ignores. Confusing the two newspapers is common because both are important to the series, but the Daily Prophet is the wizarding world’s principal daily paper.
