Burj Khalifa has been the centerpiece of several record-setting New Year's Eve fireworks shows in Dubai.
The skyscraper stands in Downtown Dubai and is the world's tallest building, reaching 828 meters including its antenna. Its height, illuminated facade, and visibility across the city make it a natural centerpiece for large multimedia celebrations. Fireworks and light displays have been coordinated across the tower and surrounding district for major New Year's events.
Burj Khalifa officially opened in January 2010, although its first New Year's Eve celebration occurred shortly afterward. Dubai's displays have sometimes combined pyrotechnics with lasers, LEDs, fountains, and choreographed music, creating a production much larger than a conventional fireworks launch.
Burj Al Arab is another internationally recognizable Dubai landmark, but it is a sail-shaped hotel rather than the skyscraper associated with these tower-centered countdowns. The building's name is also sometimes written without the Arabic diacritic in English-language coverage.
