Which family group is central to Michael's early-life story?
Answer
The Jackson 5
Answer
The Jackson 5
The Jackson 5 is the family group central to Michael’s early-life story.
Michael Jackson joined his brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon in the Jackson 5, the family band that launched his career. Their father, Joseph “Joe” Jackson, managed and rigorously rehearsed the group in Gary, Indiana, helping turn the brothers’ performances into a professional act.
The group became one of Motown’s major successes after signing with the label in 1968. Their early hits included “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There.” Michael, the youngest member, quickly became the standout lead singer because of his distinctive voice, timing, and stage presence.
The Jackson 5 is often confused with other famous Black vocal groups. The Temptations were a Motown group but were not related to Michael. The Commodores were associated with Lionel Richie, and New Edition formed in Boston years later. None is the family group depicted at the beginning of Michael.
The group was later known as the Jacksons after leaving Motown, but “The Jackson 5” is the historically correct name for the early period covered by the film.
