Taylor Swift performed “willow” with “august” at the 2021 Grammys.
The performance was a medley of “Cardigan,” “august,” and “willow” at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. The first two songs came from Folklore, while “willow” came from Evermore, Swift’s ninth studio album and a companion release issued later in 2020.
Swift began with “Cardigan” in a cottage, moved into “august” while playing guitar inside, and then joined Antonoff and Dessner outside for “willow.” The staging connected the albums through a shared rustic and cinematic visual world.
Because “willow” appeared in the same performance, it is sometimes mistakenly included in the Folklore love-triangle trilogy. That trilogy consists only of “Cardigan,” “august,” and “Betty.” “willow” is a separate Evermore song with its own lyrical setting and narrative. Its presence in the Grammy medley reflects the timing of the awards ceremony, which followed the release of both albums.
